The Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival
The Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival began in 1997 to commemorate the anniversary of the composer's death. It has steadily become an important part of European cultural life. The Geneva-based European Festival Association has formally recognised the Festival's rank by admitting it as a member in October 2001. The inspirational, genial music of Ludwig van Beethoven is the focus of attention at each of the Easter Festivals. Sonatas and quartets, concerts, overtures and symphonies, oratorio and opera music, church and dramatic music is performed by internationally celebrated artists - the highlight of each of the Festival's concerts.
Poland's most distinguished soloists and orchestras (Sinfonia Varsovia, National Symphonic Orchestra of the Polish Radio (NOSPR) conducted by Kazimierz Kord, of the National Philharmonic) have shown much interest in the Festival. Organisers go to great lengths to add a multimedia element to live concerts in keeping with the audiovisual character of the Festival. The Festival, as one of the country's three leading music events (the other two are the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival and The Warsaw Autumn International Contemporary Music Festival) linked to Warsaw is primarily financed by the city's budget.
