New German Embassy

Warsaw Mayor Lech Kaczyński issued a building permit for a new Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and ambassadorial residence.

Construction will start in the spring. The building will be completed in the second half of 2007. The new embassy will be located on the Vistula escarpment on Jazdów Street, not far from the Sejm building and the Embassy of France, and will accommodate embassy offices, the consulate and the ambassador's residence. The estimated construction cost is 15.3 million euros. The project designer is Berlin architect Holger Kleine.

The three-story edifice will cover an area of 12,200 sq m. It will consist of three connected buildings. The first will house the consulate, the second the ambassador's residence and official reception rooms. The glass building connecting these two segments will house the embassy offices. Today the German Embassy occupies six buildings, including one owned by the embassy. All of these offices will be centralized in the new building.
