Poland To Host Miss World 2006

The jury will elect the new Miss World in Poland. The Miss World 2006 contest will be held in Poland, as officially confirmed Julia Morley, Chairman of Miss World Ltd. A press conference dedicated to the event was held at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Poland outpaced six countries applying to host the finals of this prestigious event in September 2006. The finals will be an excellent opportunity to promote Poland on the international arena. Many Polish cities have expressed an interest in participating in the event. "I believe that the finals will take place in Warsaw on 30 September," said Tadeusz Deszkiewicz of the City Promotion and Development Office during the conference.

The decision to stage the world's largest and most renowned beauty pageant, whose finals have a viewership of 2 billion around the world, was made by ... Poles. Julia Morley commented on this choice: "Poles are wonderful, warm and hospitable people with great hearts. You are a nation with an amazing history, outstanding representatives and a rich culture which we will show to the entire world in an attempt to discover Poland in joint effort."

The Miss World contest is a wonderful promotional opportunity for the tourist industry. Organised since 1951 in Great Britain, it is now held in unique locations throughout the world. The first finals on foreign ground were held in 1989 in Hong Kong. The winner was Miss Poland - Aneta Kręglicka. According to the organisers, the event attracts at least two million tourists to the country where the finals are held. The event supports a charity goal to help children around the world. The funds raised during the Miss World contest reach USD 1 million.

Poland will be the seventh country in the world to organise the finals, after the US, India, the Seychelles, South Africa, Hong Kong and China. "I would like to strongly urge all Polish girls to take part in the pageant. It has changed my life like in a fairy tale: from a college student, a girl from a small village, I became the third runner up in the Miss World contest," says Ewa Wachowicz, Miss World spokesperson for Poland.

The present Miss World, Unnur Birna Vilhjamsdottir of Iceland, who has a very busy schedule travelling and attending charity events throughout the world, said: "During my January visit, I had an opportunity to find out about your beautiful country and its hospitable people. I envy this year's candidates who will have a chance to tour Poland for an entire month".

120 of the world's most beautiful women will arrive in Poland already on 1 September. They will visit various Polish cities and towns and will take part in shows and charity events. The event will be organised by the Miss Polonia Agency in joint effort with the National Chamber of Commerce, the Polish Tourist Organisation, the Polish Information and Foreign Investments Agency, the Warsaw Promotion and Development Office and other partners. The contest will be held under the auspices of Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz.
